Why builder tools start to strain as your project grows, and what the next tier looks like: Cursor for seeing and editing code directly, Claude Code for autonomous multi-file work inside your project, and Codex for well-defined tasks you hand off and review later. These tools aren't competing. Most builders use them in sequence.

Vocabulary

  • Builder tool — An AI tool that generates a complete working app from a plain-language description — front end, logic, and often a database. Lovable, Bolt, Replit, and v0 are the four covered here.
  • Debugging — Figuring out why something isn't working. Being able to say whether it's a front-end, back-end, API, or database problem is what makes it fast.
