How do I add the # and the lastName in upper case please Help!

challenge task 2of2 in JS basics. It's about combining strings

var id = "23188xtr";
var lastName = "Smith";
var userName = 'id.toUpperCase();

Looks like you just have an extra ' mark that doesn't belong

var userName = id.toUpperCase();

As for the 2nd part, you can use + signs to add different strings together:

var userName = id.toUpperCase() + '#' + lastName.toUpperCase();

As dan said, you have an extra mark that doesnt belong which would fail challenge 1. To answer your question posted just simply add the # as a string then followed by the uppercase conversion of lastName to. Should look like the code below.

var id = "23188xtr"; var lastName = "Smith";

var userName = id.toUpperCase() + '#' + lastName.toUpperCase();

So i tried this method and doesn't work as planned.

var id = "23188xtr"; var lastName = "Smith"; var userName = id.toUpperCase() + '#' + lastName.toUppercase();

I'm not sure why it doesn't work though.

concatenate the first task using the + like this:

  • '#' + lastName.toUpperCase();
