I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong

def square(number): result = number * number

square(3)

squaring.py
def square(number):
    result = number * number

square(3)

You just need to return the result

def square(number):
    return number * number

That seems to be the answer to the first part of their question, but they want something different for the second part

You still need to return the result as you are not calling return.

def square(number):
    result = number * number
    return result

square(3)
