Creating a GitHub Repo

    In this course, we'll be using GitHub as a central repository for our project. 0:01
    As we build out our comic book gallery website, 0:06
    GitHub will also allow us to track the changes that we make to our code. 0:09
    In this video, we'll create a GitHub repo for our project. 0:14

    We can click here on the Repositories tab to see a list of my repos. 0:54
    Click on the New button to create a repo. 1:00
    Let's name the repo comic-book-gallery. 1:03
    We'll keep this a public repo so that anyone can find it on GitHub. 1:07
    Check the box to initialize this repo with a readme file. 1:12
    Providing a readme file is a great way to share general information about your 1:16
    project. 1:21
    Lastly, let's add a gitignore file for Visual Studio. 1:22
    Then let's finish up by clicking the Create Repository button. 1:27
    Now let's clone our repo to our local computer. 1:32
    There are a number of ways to do this. 1:36
    I'm going to use the GitHub extension for Visual Studio. 1:39
    But you can use whichever method you're comfortable with. 1:42
    Let's switch to the Team Explorer panel and 1:45
    click the little plug icon to manage our connections. 1:48
    To give myself more room, 1:51
    I'm going to collapse the Properties panel by clicking the pin icon. 1:53
    Now we can see the list of available source control providers. 1:57
    If you don't see GitHub listed here, 2:01
    you'll need to install the GitHub extension for Visual Studio. 2:03

    In the GitHub section we can see Clone, Create and Sign out links. 2:12
    That tells us that I'm already connected to my GitHub account. 2:18
    If you aren't signed in, you'll see a Connect link instead. 2:22
    If you need to, go ahead and pause the video and sign in now. 2:25
    Okay let's clone our repo. 2:30
    Click the Clone link, which will open up 2:32
    a dialog displaying a list of remote repos that my account has access to. 2:35
    Let's search for our repo using the field here at the top of the dialog. 2:40

    Go ahead and click on it to select it, and 2:46
    then click the Clone button at the bottom of the dialog. 2:48
    Great, now that we've cloned our repo, 2:52
    we're ready to create our project, which is what we'll do in the next video. 2:54
